Sewer & Wastewater Services

The City of Oakdale's Public Services Department is responsible for maintaining the City's sanitary sewer collection system and wastewater infrastructure to help ensure reliable service for our community.

Experiencing Sewer Issues?

If you are experiencing a sewer backup, overflow, or other sewer-related issue, please contact the Public Services Department at 209-845-3600 as soon as possible. Prompt reporting allows City staff to investigate the issue, determine whether it is within the public sewer system, and respond appropriately.

If the issue occurs after normal business hours, please contact the City's after-hours emergency number 1-800-868-8750.

Help Protect Our Sewer System – Don't Flush These Items

Only human waste and toilet paper should be flushed down the toilet. Many items labeled as "flushable" do not break down properly and can clog household plumbing, damage the City's sewer system, and cause costly sewer backups and overflows.

Please do not flush the following items:

  • Disposable disinfectant cleaning wipes

  • Feminine hygiene products

  • Disposable diapers

  • Baby, facial cleansing, and household cleaning wipes (including "flushable" wipes)

  • Bandages and adhesive bandages (Band-Aids®)

  • Razor blades

  • Cotton balls, cotton swabs, and Q-Tips®

  • Syringes and needles

  • Incontinence pads and similar products

  • Plastic bags and wrappers

  • Disposable toilet brushes

Placing these items in the trash instead of the toilet helps protect your home's plumbing, reduces maintenance costs, and keeps Oakdale's wastewater system operating efficiently for everyone.

Keep Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG) Out of the Drain

Fats, oils, and grease (FOG) may be liquid when poured down the drain, but they cool and harden inside sewer pipes. Over time, grease builds up and can block both household plumbing and the City's sewer system, leading to sewer backups, overflows, and costly repairs.

      Help Prevent Sewer Blockages

  • Never pour cooking oil, grease, or fats down sinks, toilets, or storm drains.

  • Allow grease to cool, then pour it into a sealable container and dispose of it in the trash.

  • Wipe greasy pots, pans, and dishes with a paper towel before washing.

  • Use sink strainers to catch food scraps and dispose of them in the trash.

  • Place food waste in the garbage or compost whenever possible.

By properly disposing of fats, oils, and grease, you can help protect your home's plumbing, reduce sewer maintenance costs, and keep Oakdale's wastewater collection system operating safely and efficiently.
